In a few short weeks (November 8 to be exact) the hills officially open in Breckenridge. While skiing is probably what attracts the most attention and tourists to our town, we’d like to showcase other activities our small and mighty mountain has to offer in the colder seasons, no ski equipment required.
Learn Our History
Our little town is mountain tough. With our beginnings as a mining town, to today’s bustling resort destination, there is a lot to cover in between. We boast the largest historic district in Colorado. Learn the history behind our quirks (we are looking at you Ullr Fest), the stories behind our beautiful alpine buildings, and rich Colorado history with the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance. They offer walking tours, haunted tours, and even a historical saloon tour.
Adventure Without Skis
For those itching to get their snow pants on we have plenty of the white stuff for recreation. Take in our beautiful surroundings with snowshoeing or catch speed with tubing. Sleigh rides are the quintessential way to dash through the hills, cocoa in hand. Or put on your best Arctic gear for dog sledding like a true mountaineer.
Breckenridge Art
Breckenridge is known for our support of local art. We proudly host The International Snow Sculpture Championship. It is unlike any art exhibition anywhere in winter months. In addition to many open studios, Breckenridge has an incredible amount of public art. Take a self-guided tour of the art around town and be sure to explore the Arts District and catch a show at the Backstage Theatre. Stay up to date with the arts at Breck Create.
Boozy Breck
Yes, we can be a lively bunch. Work hard, play hard is taken seriously here. Colorado is known for our beer and spirits and Breckenridge is considered the pioneer of local brewing and distilleries. Stay warm from the inside with a Breckenridge Distillery Tour, a wine tasting at Continental Divide Winery, or learn about one of the most successful craft brews in the nation at Breckenridge Brewery. For a hand-crafted cocktail, sit at the mountain modern farm-like bar at Aurum. (Yes, we built and designed this restaurant.)
We have a lot to offer for the size of our town, and of course, the skiing is amazing too. Visit us, and perhaps someday you will be proud to call Breckenridge home. We are.
